ALL HANDS ON DECK
GET OUT THE VOTE EVENT & BBQ IN SCHOHARIE
DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES CANVASSING WITH VOLUNTEERS
OCT. 16 Wayward Lane Brewery, 255 Ward Lane, Schoharie, 11am-5pm
The Schoharie County Democratic Committee (SCDC) is calling all-hands-on-deck in a multi-faced event Sunday, October 16, fondly called “Knocktoberfest.” Beginning at 11 am with candidates Eric Ball (NY Senate 51) and Nicholas Chase (NY 102nd Assembly District), Heidi Cochrane (State Supreme Court) and teams of volunteers knocking on doors to inform and inspire voter turnout. At 2 pm there will be a more sedentary option to write postcards to registered voters who have not voted consistently in recent election cycles. Then after all this outreach, there will be chicken BBQ, potluck sides, desserts and brew, from 3 until 5 pm. Celebrating community and focusing on the upcoming November election, the SCDC opted to forgo a fundraising BBQ in order to focus energy and attention on the important choices being made in Schoharie County in this November 8 election. This event will begin and end at the Wayward Lane Brewery, at 255 Ward Lane, in Schoharie.
Eric Ball, candidate for NY State Senate District 51 and Nicholas Chase, candidate for the 102nd Assembly District, will be knocking on doors, speaking with voters and taking questions. Heidi Cochrane, one of three Democratic women running for the three open slots on the State Supreme Court, will also be accompanying volunteers and talking one-on-one with voters.
Mr. Ball, a former CSEA Union member, has provided care to people with disabilities, and managed small businesses including those engaged in agricultural activities. He graduated from SUNY Oneonta, and is on the Walton Board of Trustees. At a recent public gathering in Margaretville, Ball spoke of expanding provisions to the New York Health Act and investing in rural infrastructure. Nicholas Chase, a teacher in the Franklin Central School District, spoke passionately at the FDR banquet last fall about protecting the rights of responsible gun owners while also keeping guns out of the hands of those who should not have them. In Margaretville, Mr. Chase mentioned issues of importance to us all: healthcare, expanding clean energy initiatives and improving rural infrastructure.
Ms. Cochrane, the first in her family to attend college, taught school, went to law school and then launched her solo law practice in 2007. She has years of experience representing a diverse clientele in State Supreme Courts throughout the 3rd District, including victims of domestic violence. Her philosophy centers on the principle that justice requires that all individuals be treated with fairness, dignity and respect in a court system that operates with compassion, judicial efficiency and equity at its core. She lives in Columbia County with her husband and three children, all of whom attend public schools.
The candidates look forward to working alongside Schoharie County volunteers to help inform and energize voters for the November 8 election.
